Not too long ago, I was a college student. Enthusiastically enrolled in this law degree, I was excited to earn a professional qualification in this renowned Nottingham University. A little bit scared, a little bit intimated, I left my home country and embarked on one of the longest 3-years of education.
I thought I’d enjoy it. I thought I’d travel a lot around Europe. I thought I’d become a lawyer.
But I was wrong. Dead wrong.
I didn’t enjoy my law degree. I didn’t have motivation to travel. I didn’t want to become a lawyer. I was lost deeper and deeper in this black hole of pre-established system that I was confused as to how I wanted to continue living.
Napoleon Hill says, “Think twice before you speak, because your words and influence will plant the seed of either success or failure in the mind of another.” He is damn right. And that’s what my kind mentor called Sunny did for me in the summer of 2013.
I was lucky enough to secure an internship in Shanghai and I was instructed to read 2 books before the training – <Think & Grow Rich> by Napoleon Hill and <The Greatest Salesman In The World> by Og Mandino.
Wow, I thought.
I never knew there’s such thing called personal development. But that didn’t compel me to continue studying what success is. Not yet.
Fast forward to a few months later, I was grinding in my room again for my final year exam. Frustrated like before, I still couldn’t understand most of those dry legal concepts. Fvck that, I decided to procrastinate on YouTube.
All of a sudden, a dialogue popped up in my mind.
It was a conversation with a successful entrepreneur friend right after my Shanghai internship. Old stories, secondary school pranks, girls, money, <7 Habits of Highly Effective People>, and Tony Robbins. And I thought, why not search about who the heck is this Tony Robbins guy?
Before I knew it, the Pandora box of personal development grabbed me this time.
I was intrigued by Tony’s passion. I was curious about learning from these success teachers. Links after links, blogs after blogs, videos after videos, I was hooked to study as much as I can about myself, my passion, my strengths and my purpose of living life.
That’s how I read over 100 self-help books in my remaining 6 months in Uni.
That’s how I linked the bits and pieces of my history and realized that I am pretty damn good at listening to stories like a counsellor, teaching students, coaching and advising people on how to do things.
That’s how I realized that developing entrepreneurial thinking and building an online business is the new currency of modern wealth.
I could literally see a totally different world than most of my friends who are reluctantly working hard to survive in the Matrix that’s proposed by traditional schooling system, government schemes, corporate superpowers, culture norms and possibly their parents’ opinions.
But I knew there’s a better way.
I found a better way. I saw that we’re entering a new phase in history where arts, science, education, business and spirituality will join together in the pursuit of true wealth – physically, mentally, emotionally, financially and spiritually.
This immense disruption requires us to choose ourselves in order to thrive. Just like what James Altucher says, “For the past 5000 years, people have been largely enslaved by a few selected masters who understood how violence, religion, communication, debt, and class warfare all work together to subjugate a large group of people.”
But now you don’t have to continue living like that.
We all know that technology is going to replace most employees soon. We all know that the great myth of “job security” is going to burst. We all know that at some point we are the only people we can rely on, not our boss, not our parents, not our government, not our country. Institutions are going to collapse and it’s up to us to start carving our own paths.
You have two choices now.
One, continue to be a temporary worker who’s likely to be fired at some point because of the demise of corporations. Two, choose yourself and build your own platform by becoming a creator, an innovator, an artist, an investor, a marketer and an entrepreneur.
I decided to do the latter….
I evaluated my strengths, weaknesses, skillsets and passion. I reflected on the kind of impact I wanted to make in the world that fulfills me. I studied the necessary steps I must take action on to turn dream into reality.
And over the past 3 years, I slowly discovered my “calling”, unveiled my purpose and crafted my mission.
I want men to be socially free, financially free.
I want men to reclaim their masculine manhood so they create the wealth they want, the health they want, the relationships they want, the purpose-driven life they want.
I want men to not only embrace their nurturing side of kindness, empathy, passion, appreciation and intelligence, but also their dominating side of resilience, challenge, spontaneity, playfulness and shameless sexuality.
In short, I want men to be able to summon the power to be hard and soft, constructive and destructive, mission-driven while living in the moment – having access to different types of energy needed to serve their businesses, their women, their health and their legacy the most.
Creating such a brotherhood will not be easy, it takes a lot of work to pop all the false bubbles society have bestowed upon you. But this can be done.
